Maprotec Invests: New Robotic Production Cell in Operation This Spring
In spring 2025, Maprotec will commission a new robotic production cell, strengthening the company's machining capacity and enabling even more advanced manufacturing processes for customers. The modern multi-function lathe brings several benefits, including faster production lead times and high-precision machining results.
7-Axis Robot and Extensive Tool Selection Enhance Production
Earlier this year, Maprotec relocated the new robotic production cell to its Raippaluoto facility. The machine was transported from southern Finland and had previously seen very little use, according to Maprotec’s Technical Manager, Joel Dahl, who describes the equipment as a perfect fit for the company’s current needs.
"We acquired the machine late last year, and the beginning of this year has been spent on relocation, foundation work, and electrical cabling. The next step is test runs, and we expect the cell to be fully operational by May", says Dahl.
The new multi-function lathe completes Maprotec’s CNC machining services and further develops its manufacturing processes through automation and robotics. It enables milling, precise measuring, and fully automated, unmanned machining without operator involvement. The 7-axis robot and 12-shelf storage system enhance material handling and shorten production cycles.
"The new production cell offers advanced capabilities, such as a considerably wider tool selection and exceptional precision. We expect this machine to efficiently serve our production for over 10 years", Dahl adds.
Final Training Phase Before Full Production in May
During the spring, Maprotec employees will receive training on the machine’s operation to ensure a smooth production start-up.
"The advantage is that we are already familiar with the machine’s control system, as we have similar machines in use", Dahl explains.
From May onwards, the new multi-function lathe will enable even more efficient customer service. The investment further strengthens Maprotec’s position as a competitive system supplier that has been manufacturing high-precision metal components for leading players in the metal, marine, and energy industries for 40 years.
